Us
Since we first opened our doors in 1996 we have consistently and passionately worked to increase access to the arts. We deliver free and low cost activities and events. We provide support, development opportunities and creative platforms for new and emerging theatre makers. We want to do more.
Last year alone we supported the work of over 600 artists, appointed 2 associate theatre companies and provided feedback to 110 playwrights through our ScriptSpace scheme. Plays that began life at the Space have gone on to transfer to other London venues, perform at the Edinburgh Fringe and embark on national tours.
We currently receive no regular funding and need support for our in-house productions, artist support, participatory activities and to maintain our beautiful, grade II listed building.
The Space is managed by St Paul’s Arts Trust, registered charity no 801587.
With a small yet dedicated team of staff and tight budgets, we rely on support to deliver our goals. By donating to the Space you will help us to:-
- Deliver affordable, quality creative opportunities and events for audiences and our local community.
- Support emerging theatre artists and develop dynamic new work through our in-house company Space Productions.
- Maintain our beautiful, historically significant grade II listed building.

Long standing champion of the Space, David Grindley, is doing a sponsored walk around the Isle of Dogs.
David has cerebral palsy and in a wheelchair, and his walk involves pushing himself from Asda on the Isle of Dogs all the way to the Space, with plenty of cheering and support along the way!
We’ll be setting off from Asda at 2:30pm on Sunday the 28th of July and heading to the Space for a post-walk BBQ at 4pm. We’ll be shaking a bucket and carrying a card reader if you’d like to support David
You can also pre-sponsor David with the this link: PLEASE CLICK HERE

We are incredibly grateful for each and every gift kindly left to the Space.
If you would like to leave a gift to the Space in your will there are three main ways to do this. Here we explain the three ways, as well as the information you need to include in your will to make sure we receive your kind gift.
A share of your estate
Many people choose to leave a share of their estate to charity – this can be a percentage of what is left over once loved ones are provided for or it can be any percentage you like.
As this gift is a proportion of your estate it keeps pace with inflation.
Example
I give to St Paul’s Arts Trust of The Space, 269 Westferry Road, London E14 3RS Charity Registration Number: 801587 __% [proportion of residue in words] for its general purposes and I direct that the receipt of the Treasurer or other duly authorised officer shall be a sufficient discharge to my Executors.
Fixed sum of money
You can choose to leave a fixed sum of money, also known as a pecuniary gift.
You can choose any amount you like but it is worth remembering that if you do decide to leave this type of gift, it is important to review it from time to time as inflation can reduce its value.
Example
I give to St Paul’s Arts Trust of The Space, 269 Westferry Road, London E14 3RS Charity Registration Number: 801587 the sum of £___ [amount in words] for its general purposes and I direct that the receipt of the Treasurer or other duly authorised officer shall be a sufficient discharge to my Executors.
Gift of a specific item
You can also choose to leave a particular item to The Space, such as a piece of jewellery, an antique or even a property. A gift like this should be named in your will.
Example
I give to St Paul’s Arts Trust of The Space, 269 Westferry Road, London E14 3RS Charity Registration Number: 801587 [description of item(s)] absolutely for its general purposes and I direct that the receipt of the Treasurer or other duly authorised officer shall be a sufficient discharge to my Executors.
Essentials to include
In order to include a gift to the Space you should make sure your will states our full name, address and registered charity number:
St Paul’s Arts Trust of The Space, 269 Westferry Road, London E14 3RS
Registered Charity Number 801587 (England).
Sponsor A Seat
Want to make sure you always get the best seat in the house? Why not sponsor one of our chairs and leave a lasting legacy, supporting the Space and future audiences (literally).
A campaign first started across our pandemic recovery crowdfunder, Save the Space, which has proved popular with audiences and donors. For £250, you will be given a custom plaque, with your choice of dedication, for a seat of your choice in the theatre (or the Space Bar!).

We are incredibly grateful to so many people, not least our staff, volunteers, trustees and associates. There are many who have contributed to the ongoing success of the Space, here we’d like to recognise our gratitude to:-

Canary Wharf Group and Franklyn James estate agents for their sponsorship of Space Productions.
SPLASH arts, George Green’s School, Island House, Docklands Sailing and Watersports Centre, Mudchute Farm, One Love Community and Cafe Forever – our local partners and fantastic community organisations.
