... Walks Into A Bar

18 Dec - 19 Dec

…WALKS INTO A BAR explores the need in out turbulent, frantic lives to stop and enjoy the differences of other cultures through music. The start of the joke is unimportant. It doesn’t matter what culture or type of person is the subject, because the punchline is about inclusivity and the simple pleasures of good old fashioned banter and the ability to laugh at yourself.

And if none of that matters to you, there’s banging rock tunes for good measure.

An energised, determined, ambitious, Australian, called Trev, moved to Japan when he was 26 because… it was new and why not. A few weeks later a reckless, lazy, Irishman with zero ambition called Glyn arrived. Together they taught English (or their version of English) because how else would they live in Japan. Truth is that they were both pretty rubbish at it, Glyn’s Irish accent was so strong that Trev couldn’t understand him, let alone the Japanese. Regardless, theIR attempt at teaching helped to fund their ridiculous lifestyle. They also soon discovered that they had the same day off work. Glyn suggested on a whim that they should climb Mt. Fuji. Minimal research and heading in the wrong direction, they eventually managed to climb the volcano, and they have been best of friends ever since. Oh, also, they both love writing. While Glyn was drunk one night, Trev convinced him that they should write a musical. Based very, very loosely on their experiences in Japan. This collaboration resulted in the creation of ‘Ignorance is Bliss’, about the end of the world. They staged a workshop in Australia and was shortlisted for the Mercury Musical Theatre Development award in London.

They went on to write several productions including ‘Orange Juice the psychedelic musical’ set in 1969 and inspired by Woodstock. OJ, premiered at the Broward Center for Performing Arts in Florida prior to Covid. They recently wrote OJ into a screenplay and were finalists in the Cambridge Script Festival and the Best Script Award London.

… WALKS INTO A BAR, is their latest venture, which brings fresh new blood with the incredibly talented Ben Pulman as Writer/Musical Director and performer and Katie Thomas as choreographer.

Ben, has achieved his Grade 3 piano certificate, this year. Notable, while at Surrey University he was awarded the ‘most improved’ award by the Fortnum and Mason Brewers Society.

Trev was voted ‘most likely to go to prison’ by his peers at Kincumber High School in Australia. His Mother voted by proxy. Everyone is surprised he still walks free, apart from his Dad, who knew he was too lazy to ever do anything that criminal.

Donal is in the Guinness book of records. It’s a little book the Guinness factory Keeps to remind them who is barred. This is also Donal’s third year as reigning champion of his work group chat’ ‘chunder chart’.

Aussie: By the way you all look beaut. No thongs to be seen, all in your best glad rags.

Irish: You know it’s bad when you need an Irishman to translate.
