The knees are shaking, the ground is quaking, the heat is BAKING… Game on!
Based on true events; “The Lost Lionesses” tells the story of a team of pioneering
young women who travel to Mexico to play in the 1971 women’s football world cup
in front of 90,000 people! But not everyone is thrilled… From humble beginnings
on a pitch in Luton to signing autographs for countless fans outside the famous
Azteca Stadium. Come follow the team of ragtag teenagers from England and their
maverick manager; Harry batt as they embark on the biggest life changing
journey that no one has ever heard of… until now!

This story features verbatim recounts of memories from the 1971 players
themselves and their trailblazing manager Harry Batt. “The Lost Lionesses” is
written by the niece of one of the 1971 players; Christine Lockwood.

Unlock Theatre Company is a newly birthed organisation with unlocking true
and inspiring stories at its very heart. “The Lost Lionesses” will be the first
production devised by Unlock Theatre Company. We’re very passionate about
sharing unheard stories and unlocking hidden histories that have helped shape
our world – sometimes with little to no acknowledgement. We believe that
theatre should not only entertain but also challenge the mind of an audience
member to view a different perspective. Our proudest moment as a company so
far was receiving the confirmation from The Space Theatre, that our wonderful
show of “The Lost Lionesses” will be performed here in this beautiful theatre.
