Our Judges

Matt Price
Matt is a Cornish legend of the comedy circuit, renowned for his rapid gag rate and razor sharp audience interaction. Having performed all over the world from Penzance to Cambodia, Matt has been on5 tours of Australia including Perth, Adelaide and Melbourne International comedy festival. He’s headlined comedy clubs in South East Asia, Scandinavia, Turkey, Russia, and the Middle East. Television warm up for Channel 4 and the TLC Channel, and performed at fifteen Edinburgh Festivals, as well as being tour support for Russell Kane, Larry Dean and Norman Lovett. “Criminally funny.” ★★★★ The Scotsman. “One of the best storytellers on the circuit” ★★★★ Artshub Australia. “Hilarious” ★★★★★ Broadway Baby. Steve Bennett
Steve Bennett is one of the UK’s most prominent stand-up comedy reviewers. He started Chortle.co.uk in 2000, that reviews live comedy shows nationwide, including extensively at the annual Edinburgh Festival Fringe, and presents the Chortle Awards to honour the best stand-up comics working in the UK. Past winners include, Daniel Kitson, Josie Long, Sarah Millican and The Mighty Boosh. Chortle Student Comedy Award winners include Jamali Maddix, Erika Ehler, Joe Lycett and Phil Wang.

Bennett is a graduate from Oxford University, and had been working as a local newspaper editor for the Informer group of free newspapers in Surrey and West London. After considering his areas of interest, he decided to start a comedy site, since IMDb and Empire already covered the market for film, and there were numerous music websites available.

In 2014, Chortle launched a comedy literary festival with talks by Monty Python’s Terry Jones, and comedy actor Rebecca Front. The site includes a team of writers including Jay Richardson, Julia Chamberlain and Paul Fleckney, as well as guest contributions from individual comedians.
