Recitals at the Space - March '26

An exciting programme of music led by prize-winning guitarist Seungyeon Lee. Romantic, dramatic, and humorous pieces by composers including Vivaldi, Paganini, Schubert and William Bolcom. Seungyeon Lee (guitar) and Kiok Son (violin), both graduates of the Royal College of Music, have performed as soloists in the UK, Continental Europe and Korea. This promises to be an exceptional afternoon of music-making!

This is a fundraising recital for the Space with all proceeds supporting our work and mission. Followed by complimentary tea and coffee and a fundraising homemade bake sale.

Seungyeon Lee – guitar
Seungyeon is a refined and expressive guitarist from South Korea, praised for her delicate musicality and emotional depth. She studied on a full scholarship at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland under the tutelage of Professor Allan Neave and Matthew
McAllister, graduating with First Class Honours. She went on to earn her Master of Performance at the Royal College of Music in London under Professor Gary Ryan, and most recently completed her Artist Diploma in Music, once again with a full scholarship.
Seungyeon has received recognition in numerous international competitions. Among her accolades are the Vienna International Music Competition and the Seoul Mayor Music Award. In 2023 alone, she was awarded the 1er Prix à l’unanimité at the
International Music Competition in Paris, First Prize at the Fanny Mendelssohn International Competition in Belgium, and the Gold Prize at the World Classical Music Awards in the UK.

A committed soloist and ensemble musician, Seungyeon has performed at
leading festivals such as the Ullapool Guitar Festival, Big Guitar Weekend, and at Leeds College of Music. Her UK appearances have included RCM chamber series and lunchtime concert programmes at various prestigious venues, including St James’s
Piccadilly, St Mary le Strand, Croydon Minster, and the Bloomsbury Festival. In 2025, she was invited to perform at the Korean Cultural Centre UK as a featured artist, and was also selected by the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in London

Kiok Son – violin
Kiok was born in Korea and started playing the violin at the age of twelve. As an undergraduate in Korea she studied with Professor Jiyoon Ahn. In 2018 Kiok performed Beethoven’s Violin Concerto with the Sejong Chamber Orchestra. In 2020 Kiok accepted an offer from the Royal College of Music to do a Masters of Performance degree with Professor Radu Blidar. An ardent orchestral
musician, Kiok has performed with the Chamber Orchestra of Europe under Mats Zetterqvist, and with the RCM orchestra under Thomas Zehtmair. Kiok is currently based in London, and performs regularly with a number of orchestras including the Marcel Sinfonia. This will be Kiok’s fourth appearance as a recitalist at The Space.

Andrew Campling – piano
Andrew is a member of the Ivors Academy, which represents composers and songwriters in the UK. His music has featured on BBC Radio and has been performed in venues such as St Paul’s Cathedral and the Royal Albert Hall. Andrew’s music has also received performances in France, Belgium, Germany, Austria, USA, India and Australia. Andrew has composed three symphonies, ten
concertos, many choral works, and numerous pieces for solo piano and chamber ensembles.
Andrew directs the London Docklands Singers, the Thames Chamber Choir, the Choir of the London School of Economics and the Marcel Sinfonia. The Sinfonia gives concerts regularly in St Paul’s Covent Garden and Southwark Cathedral. www.andrewcampling.com
