Recitals at the Space - March
9 Mar - 9 MarMarch: Vibrant and sensuous music for alto saxophone and piano including works by Ravel and Andrew Campling.
An hour-long recital by Martha Nicholls, alto saxophone and Andrew Campling, piano.
A highly varied programme including classics, jazz and blues!
Followed by complimentary tea and coffee. We will also be hosting a fundraising bake sale after the performance.
All proceeds of this concert are donated to The Space.
Martha Nicholls – alto saxophone
Martha is a pianist, alto saxophonist and singer. She studied at the East Sussex Academy of Music in Lewes, before graduating from the University of Liverpool with a BA in Music/Popular Music in 2015. Since her university days, Martha has retrained as a music therapist and works mainly using creative improvisation and songwriting to support children and young people with their mental health. Martha also utilises her love for improvisation by playing saxophone in the Jazz Combo and Big Band groups of the East London Community Band. She has played in a number of big bands, funk bands, jazz bands and an Afro-Cuban band. Martha also sings soprano with the London Docklands Singers, a choral society directed by Andrew Campling.
Andrew Campling – piano
A graduate of Keble College, Oxford, Andrew gained a MMus in Composition at Goldsmiths, London. He directs the London Docklands Singers, the Thames Chamber Choir, the Choir of the London School of Economics, and the Marcel Sinfonia. Andrew is a member of the Ivors Academy of Composers and Songwriters. Five CDs of his music have been produced including Piano Music, which was recorded here at The Space using the Steinway grand piano.
