Possession
2 Jul - 5 Jul“POSSESSION” is an exciting co-production between Darkstuff Production and Moveable Type Theatre Company.
In a remote Devon cottage, in the heart of Dartmoor, two lovers away from the city to celebrate an upcoming debut art exhibition. A storm outside intensifies as the late-night drink, drugs and occult speculations mount, a thin line between love and possession is crossed.
Truth and lies intermingle, as internal and external forces bear down, desires and fears are brought to the fore.
Written by Darkstuff Productions’ creative team and directed by Moveable Type’s Danielle McIlven, POSSESSION is a fast-paced darkly funny look at how love can both free us to reach our highest potential and bind us in the safety of well-worn narratives.

Darkstuff Productions has been creating new work in unique spaces for over 15 years. Originally created to facilitate and develop new writing for live performance, we progressed to developing plays in response to site and space away from the traditional theatre venue. Our work has also often been inspired by classic literature, including our 16-show sold-out run of Moby Dick on board Brunel’s SS Great Britain in Bristol (August 2019). Collaborating with Moveable Type Theatre to develop new writing for a more traditional theatre piece in “Possession” has been a brilliant creative departure for us.
Moveable Type Theatre Company was founded by Danielle Mcilven, a former Associate Director of The Space, 2 years ago and has been helping to develop Devon’s theatre ecology. As a growing collective of theatre practitioners based in and around South Devon, we are committed to producing high-quality new theatre through developing and producing new plays, programming workshops and courses and co-creating projects with other organisations. Since our inception in 2022, we have run two successful seasons of new plays at The Barrel House Ballroom theatre in Totnes and are embarking on our third. Collaborating with Darkstuff Productions on “Possession” has greatly enriched our process and work. An initial 3 show run of “Possession” (June 2023) was well received by audiences, with all performances sold out.
