heART and home: A Creative Project for LGBTQ+ People to Explore Home, Identity, and Belonging

heART and home is an artistic initiative designed for LGBTQ+ individuals to explore themes of home, identity, and belonging through art and storytelling. Whether you’ve faced housing insecurity, experienced homelessness, or simply wish to reflect on these important themes, this is a welcoming space for you to share your voice and connect with others. The workshops are FREE and open to all LGBTQ+ individuals aged 18+

Come to one workshop or all three—it’s up to you!
Everyone who participates in at least one workshop is welcome to perform or show their work at the showcase.

Workshops:

Zine-Making Workshop
📅 March 25th | 6:30 – 8:30 PM
Create your own zine to explore and express your thoughts on home, belonging, and community in a relaxed, hands-on environment led by Mia Maxwell from FEM Zine London. Zines are DIY booklets that allow you to share your voice in an energetic, creative way.

FEM is a publisher, established in 2017 with the goal of supporting creatives to make challenging, beautiful work, and expanding the life of a printed document into online and irl space, via events and digital content.

Spoken Word Poetry Workshop
📅 April 22nd | 6:30 – 8:30 PM

Make your voice heard through poetry in a supportive, open space with guidance from poet Maureen Onwunali. Everyone is welcome whether you are an experienced poet or writing for the first time!

Flesh, concrete, and the homes in between. In this poetry workshop, we’ll explore home in its many forms—the spaces we build within ourselves, the communities that embrace us, and the warmth of the familiar—through prompts and guided writing exercises to map our personal landscapes of belonging.

Maureen Onwunali is a Dublin-born Nigerian published poet and a two-time national slam champion. She is currently a Resident Artist at the Roundhouse and has been commissioned, sampled, and featured by various musicians, radio shows, and organisations, including BFI, Pearson, Penguin, BBC Radio London, and the Poetry Society.

Movement Poetry Workshop
📅 May 13th | 6:30 – 8:30 PM.

What does home feel like in your body? This session combines poetry with movement, allowing you to explore self-expression through movement, gesture, and physical storytelling with guidance from Offie nominated theatre maker and poet Grace Quigley. No dance experience is needed—just an open mind and a willingness to move in whatever way feels right for you.

Stonewall Housing Support:
Throughout all workshops, Stonewall Housing staff will be present to offer guidance and information on the charities services and offer signposting to additional resources and services for anyone who may need housing related advice.

Showcase:

The workshops will culminate in a Showcase on June 18th, where participants can share their work with friends, family, and the public. This exciting event will also feature performances from award-winning LGBTQ+ artists. It’s a great opportunity to celebrate the creativity of the community!
