BabyFace

20 Nov - 22 Nov

A twenty-four year old woman is faced with adult life after graduating from university, but the question she faces is unusual – how do you tackle adult life when you look fifteen?

Babyface is a coming-of-age tale as you have never seen it before. Exploring hilarious and heart-wrenching scenes of trying to be taken seriously when the world sees you as a child (literally), Babyface tackles themes of growth, comparison, and grief of our childhood selves.

Babyface began as a culmination of random scenes about true experiences the writer faced as a result of looking young. ‘Are your parents in?’ is not really what you want to hear while accepting a delivery of your 24th birthday present. The play follows Baby in her post-graduate life (which is beginning to feel increasingly like her school life) as she tries to navigate job hunting, love, and friendship, all while having the face of a teenager. How can she be taken seriously when she is ID’d for paracetamol? Through Baby’s hilarious troubles as a result of looking younger than she is, we learn that many of her insecurities come from people
who perceive her as a child. But does she really view herself as an adult, or is she struggling to shake the child inside?

At Shoreside Productions, we focus on storytelling that explores the complexities of being human, often confronting the darker sides of our experiences. Our journey began in 2024 with Reanicorp, a piece of new writing and physical theatre exploring the commodification of grief. Since then, we’ve sought to produce new writing, devised theatre, physical theatre, and dance, reaching wider audiences through various mediums.

With team members from England, the Mediterranean, and South America, we bring diverse perspectives from across the world and a shared commitment to tell stories that make us tick. We are committed to collaborating with artists from diverse social and artistic backgrounds, ensuring that we explore many creative avenues and make work that features deep and compelling characters in visually striking storytelling.

In addition to Reanicorp, which premiered at Applecart Arts in February 2024 and performed at Lion and Unicorn Theatre in May 2024, we’ve had the pleasure of engaging in several exciting projects. In September 2024, we hosted a series of workshops for creatives in collaboration with Tripspace, offering a space for artistic exploration and development. Our Scratch Night at The Drayton Arms Theatre in March 2025 featured an exciting variety of dance, new writing, physical theatre, and
puppetry works from six different companies, showcasing the incredible talent within our artistic community.
