Mother Tongue
14 Nov - 15 NovMother Tongue is about the stories of women whose identity has been altered or taken due to events of violence. Every full moon, the sisterhood emerges from the earth, desperate for their stories to be heard. They are not malicious or evil; they simply refuse to be dismissed and forgotten. The show is a mix of live music, spoken word, scenes, and movement borrowing ideas from ritualistic theatre practices and the horror genre. All music will be played and sung live, consisting of an original score composed for this show. The text will be a mixture of English and the native languages of the performers, forming an ancient chorus of women.
Violence against women remains a global and ongoing reality, often reduced to statistics or forgotten narratives. They are more than just some number; they have mouths, and they will scream.
