LeoLibra productions was formed by Lela and her husband, Jon Jacobs as a vehicle for the show, which is a character driven comedy with music about a hairdresser named Lola who wonders, “what the fuck is wrong with me?” Lola has a Shame Parrot, (a garish purple and yellow puppet) that represents her inner critical voice gone too far.

The diagnosis is written as a game show titled; “What the fuck is wrong with you?” and there is a scene explaining ADHD medication that takes place in a space ship orbiting “Planet Brain” and includes two stick puppets playing the Pre-frontal Cortex and Amygdala. The six original songs were written almost accidentally by Lela in the shower and are all different genre’s including; musical theatre, 60’s bop, country-western, and an homage to Dusty Springfield.
Lela Bergeron
Writer and performer, Lela Bergeron was diagnosed with severe, mixed presentation ADHD at the age of 52. She was astonished that she’d lived most of her life undiagnosed, but instead had clawed her way through shame, squandered opportunities, addiction and recovery. After the relief and fury, came the realisation that the evidence of ADHD had existed throughout her very religious childhood, teens and adulthood. The more she learned, the more she saw how ADHD had manifested in herself and others and how little people understood it.
So Lela wrote about it, taking the title from something she told her Psychiatrist during the assessment that led to her diagnosis. That something was “well, I feel guilty all the time, don’t think I’ve reached my full potential and always feel like I’ve got a head full of bees”. The show is based loosely on Lela‘s life and tracks Lola’s very eventful life with it’s uniquely American fundamental Christian upbringing to her diagnosis as an adult and beyond into a utopian 2028. Utopian in part because the top richest 1% have died in a spacex rocket explosion.
