SpaceWorks - Chekhov Comedy Shorts Livestream

8 May - 8 May

SpaceWorks are proud to show off their comedy chops with a series of adapted works by the playwright Anton Chekov.

Forget the Cherry Orchard and The Seagull! There’s farce, rom-coms, comedies of errors, comedies of manners, mistaken identities and hasitly shoved on costumes.

Support your local community theatre group and enjoy seven side-splitting shorts in one:

On The Evils of Tobacco
At their wive’s insistence, a set of smokers delivers a charity lecture ‘On The Evils of Tobacco’. Their eyes keep darting off stage and scanning the crowd… Is everything all right at home?

Swansong
A faded star wakes up drunk in a theatre, as he thinks on ghosts of great roles past, he wonders if he’s really alone in here.

The Bear
A widowed landlady has shut the curtains, locked the doors and stopped all visitors. A hammering on the door from her neighbour. He’s crude, obnoxious, violent and hairy… He’s exactly her type.

The Proposal
The course of true love never did run smooth. Especially if our lovers can’t agree who owns the orchard up the road or who has the best hunting dog.

A Reluctant Tragic Figure
A civil servant visits their friend with an unlikely request, can they borrow a revolver?

The Wedding
The happy day has finally arrived. But the guest of honour hasn’t.

The Anniversary
A bank manager celebrates their fifteenth anniversary and there’s going to be speeches from the board! Can they keep a lid on it all until they’ve marked the special day?

SpaceWorks is the Space’s participatory drama group. Meeting weekly on Monday nights, we’re here to make friends, make memories and make some good fun theatre!

“People even laugh. But understand, I am a living being and I want to live! This isn’t farce, it’s tragedy!”
