‘Sold’ is a story of girl who should have had an innocent childhood, growing up to live a life full of opportunity, dreams and ambitions. But her fate and circumstances sell her to the vast world of the sex trade.
Not knowing what her future holds and with the constant feeling of helplessness and imprisonment, she embarks on a horrific journey where she comes across other girls just like her, sold into a world from which it’s almost impossible to return. Yet despite the horrors she faces, losing hope is not an option and she finds inner courage to keep living. Will she find the strength to escape her world of exploitation?
‘Sold’ is inspired by the true stories of sex trafficking victims from around the world, trapped in a global industry that is booming and easily concealed, with both men and woman, rich and poor at the helm.
The Rokeya Project aims to raise awareness through the creative art of dance and movement. Combining contemporary dance, hip hop and Indian classical movement, this powerful production sheds light on a global industry, highlighting the terrible plight of victims and emphasising the need for hope and change.
