Kickstarting The Castle – 10 years of Space Productions

We are delighted to announce that Space Productions are celebrating their 10th anniversary with Howard Barker’s brilliant ‘The Castle’, 10th – 28th October.

This will be our 24th production, past successes include Vernon God Little, Manifesto, The Lighthouse and The Man Who Found his Freedom and we are thrilled to return to Space Productions’ origins, giving known plays a new lease of life.

The Castle tells the story of Stucley, a soldier who returns home from the War to find his land untended, his sheep wild and his wife in bed with a witch. In the absence of men, a new way of life has emerged. No religion. No class. No hunger. The women are in charge now. They have their freedom and they’re not going to give it back. Stucley orders the erection of a castle to restore order and revive the old way of life. Will he succeed or will he inspire more conflict?

The Castle is an epic production. We have a ten strong cast busily learning lines and a brilliant team of creatives currently designing costumes, lights and soundscapes. This is another exciting and ambitious show and we are so excited to present it in our beautiful Grade II listed building.

But first – we need your help. Funding for the arts is increasingly competitive and, despite a strong application, the Arts Council didn’t select us for a grant on this occasion. We have managed to secure support from Canary Wharf Group and Franklyn James estate agents

We are on our way to raising £2,000 via our Kickstarter Campaign. This will ensure we can pay our talented actors for their time and energy, purchase materials for set and costume and promote the show effectively. We have some marvellous packages to say thank you for your support including complimentary tickets, a party with the cast and crew and (for all the theatre lovers out there) an open invitation to rehearsals. There’s also some footage of Artistic Director, Adam Hemming, along with some of the fine cast members sharing their thoughts on the play.

You can click here to check out the packages, make a donation and share this campaign with your friends.

In addition to supporting this production, your donation will enable us to keep producing meaningful theatre, developing artists and entertaining audiences.
