The Space team
The Space is looking for monologues/solo pieces for the One Festival 2018, a showcase of solo performances. Now in its 6th and final year, the One Festival has become an annual highlight at the Isle of Dogs theatre. It’s time for One Last Dance (only theatre pieces will be accepted).
So, why is it coming to an end? Well, all good things do and like the amazing stories we’ve included in the past, we wanted the One Festival to have a beginning, middle and an end. We wanted to go out with a bang and we think there’s something quite exciting about taking part in the last ever One.
But, this is a great opportunity for playwrights, directors and performers, a rare chance for short pieces to be staged and a wonderful chance for those who often work alone to be part of something bigger, I hear you cry. Fear not, as One door closes another will surely open. We remain committed to supporting theatre-makers and bringing people together, so although this might be the last One, we’re not done with the festival format yet. Watch this Space!
Here’s how the One Festival works:-
We select an exciting blend of theatre, including comedy, drama and most things in-between, covering a range of different topics. The only rules are they must be performed by one solo performer and they should be theatrical (solo dance/music/sculpture pieces will not be accepted) in form.
We split these into four programmes, with each programme performing 5 times over three weeks.
This year, we’re looking for pieces up to a maximum of 45 minutes long, there is no minimum length but pieces should have the beginning, middle and end we mentioned above.
We’re only interested in new writing; although previously performed work will be considered. If the applicant is not the playwright, you must have the playwright’s permission before applying.
You don’t need to have a performer or a director attached; the Space can help to find both.  All pieces will receive a split of the box office.
The festival will run from 9th – 27th January 2018 at the Space.
The programme dates will run as follows:-
The deadline for proposals is 5pm on Monday 18th September.
