The SpaceWorks Summer School was unanimously voted a roaring success by the pioneering participants of 2009. Join us for the bolder second coming, in bite-sized sessions (so you can still enjoy the summer sun) over two weeks in August.
Cadets (7 – 11 year olds)

Film & Design course
The Cadets will make their first short film, all about … Superheroes! They will devise the characters, storyboard the shoot and designing all set and costume pieces. Our multimedia & design specialists, Justin, Sara & Ruth, are new to the Cadets and will be training them up over the week

Designing for Devised Theatre
Basic Lighting
Advanced Lighting
Rob Metsoja will reprise his basic lighting training for technical novices, and then lead a new Advanced Lighting workshop for more seasoned techies.
Mary Doyle, from the design collective StrangeWorks, is new to the Space and will be leading a series of workshops in designing for devised theatre, ensuring that our design team is ready for the big week ahead. The designers will see their ideas materialise into actual set and costume with the help of a set builder on the final day.
For 12 – 16 year olds only
We are giving our SYD a week break before the adrenalin-busting challenge of Production Week – with just 5 days to mount a play from scratch, participants will gain invaluable experience in all kinds of productions skills, including performance, directing, design, producing, budgeting, marketing and technical operation of the final show.
Shane Dempsey (artistic director of Fragments Theatre) returns this year with professional playwright Hannah Burke. Together this artistic power-house will develop the company’s ideas into a structured script and fully staged production.
